Constipation!

Admin - I’ve posted this in the wellness section as I’m not sure where to post it!

I have recently suffered a bout of constipation due to the need to take lots of pain medication, namely codeine

I don’t think I fully appreciated how difficult and uncomfortable it is to be constipated. I eventually achieved my goal but not before taking Lactulose, senna, plenty of water, days of huffing and puffing and all round discomfort and stress!

I don’t want to have to deal with that again, any recommendations for preventative measures or healthier, quicker remedies?

There the obvious prunes and prune juice, soft pairs are very helpful too, both of these work overnight, but they are kinder on the stomach than over the counter medicines.

Slippery elm powder mixed into some water or juice and drunk quickly before it thickens will work wonders, it helps coat the bowel with a mucous type lining. Also great if you suffer from Irritable bowel, it’s very soothing.

constipation! So easily passed off as ‘nothing’ or too embarrassing to discuss, but vitally important and should be spoken of more readily!

My top tips for preventing constipation is plenty of water with a tiny pinch of sea salt. I am also a big advocate of fermented foods, these guarantee a bowel movement the following day!
Personally I like saurkraut, preferably organic.
