    Microbeads in our environment

    The Micro-beads in Our Environment

There are tonnes of plastic dumped into our beautiful oceans, in fact an estimated 8 million tonnes of plastic enters our oceans every year. This human waste ends up in the stomach of seabirds and all marine life. Ultimately, leading back into the food chain.

Micro-beads are found in numerous household and personal care products, from face washes, toothpastes, abrasive cleaners and body washes.

They are usually 5 millimetres or smaller and can pass through the water filtration systems. A single plastic particle can absorb a huge amount of toxic chemicals, making the a concentrated toxic particle.

Although, many companies are electively choosing to stop using micro-beads in their products, there are still many companies that still do use them. Click here for more information on the companies that have banned micro-beads https://www.beatthemicrobead.org/en/industry

Don't wait for brands to stop using micro-beads, help to make the environment safer for all, choose products that use natural exfoliators. Companies will make the changes quicker when consumers don't buy the products.

There was a lot of controversy about these micro beads as they were put into beauty products to act as a scrub but I thought they had all been removed now?

It was around in the news some years go, then the Government made a ban on their use. Many companies use more natural abrasive materials now, but the damage is still out their in our water supplies and sea water.

I’ve noticed these micro beads have been taken out of the face and body scrubs I use, I had no idea they were harmful
